There are lots of things to love about The Weirdos Next Door. Ponton sparkles as Jen, clearly delighted to be surrounded by a cast of furry friends. The song selection is a personal favorite, with familiar and enjoyable choices such as “My Best Friend’s Girlfriend” and “Somebody’s Baby” that fit the narrative perfectly without intruding upon it (bonus points for “Don’t Let the Light Go Out” as a holiday special). And while the Weirdos are obvious attention-grabbers, they’re far more than just brightly-colored puppets. Rudy, Wellington, Ket and Li’l are all full, engaging, developed characters with the roommate relationship between Rudy and Wellington serving as one of the show’s core dynamics.
The family sitcoms we loved growing up in the 80’s and 90’s are getting a new twist with the premiere of season three of the web series “The Weirdos Next Door,” produced by and starring native Jen Ponton.
Ponton plays an aspiring actress named Jen who gets to know her Muppet-inspired next door neighbors, Rudy Monster, Ket T. Cat, Wellington P. Sheep and Li’L Bunny, and enters their colorful, musical world that she thought she left behind in childhood.
